Unfortunately the DVR/NVR is only able to back up a few files at a time, and it is unable to perform the backup process remotely. The USB needs to be attached to the DVR/NVR itself, and you'll need to use the "backup" option on the DVR/NVR.

The backup feature is meant to be used to back up specific amounts of footage. This system isn't designed to backup entire days worth of footage, but you're able to replace the hard drive which may be a better option if you want to store all of your footage.
