The HDMI port on a computer tower is intended for output rather than input. This is a port that would allow you to have your computer display on a monitor using an HDMI connection. 
The DVR/NVR is intended to be connected to a TV or monitor using either an HDMI or VGA connection. This will allow you to view the system locally. The PC client provided is used to view the system remotely via internet and doesn't require any connection between the computer and DVR/NVR.
